We have been designing networks since 1985 with various needs. Our largest customer had over 300 employees running on Novell NetWare. Another company had over 100 employees running on Microsoft Server 2003. Both of these companies had multiple servers, firewalls, routers, server rooms, remote sites, etc. We designed both of these systems from the ground up. In fact we helped decide how to wire the facility for maximum throughput and usability.
